LODGE CREST

The lodge Crest represents the Old Church of St. Pancras in Pancras Road, the most ancient edifice of its kind in the borough. It possesses a history dating back to the seventh century. Parts of the present structure (Renovated 1847-48) probably belong to the fourteenth century. John Norden (1548-1625) wrote that St Pancras church is “Standing all alone utterly forsaken, old and weather beaten, which for antiquity thereof is not thought to yield to Paules in London.” There is evidence that during the Civil War (1642-49) fortifications were erected around the Church.

It may perhaps be observed in passing that St. Pancras has an imposing record of Masonic activity. This is indicated by the following lodges which were either consecrated in or had their earliest association with the borough: Camden (1857), Highgate (1871), King’s Cross (1877), Derby Allcroft (1886), Regent’s Park (1887), St. Pancras (1888), Borough of St. Pancras (1908), Munia (1920) and Phrygian (1932)
