History of Munia Lodge

The story commences on the 16 th January 1920, when a small group of brethren met in the Board Room at the old St Pancras Town Hall and unanimously decided to take the necessary steps to present a Petition for a Warrant to form a new lodge for “Municipal Officers”. The petition was endorsed by the Borough of St Pancras Lodge No 3316 and a cordial letter of recommendation was received from the St Pancras Lodge No 2271.

On the 14 th June 1920 the lodge was consecrated at Freemasons’ Hall by the former Grand Secretary, R.W.Bro Sir Colville Smith, K.C.V.O. The Founders, who numbered twenty four, included representatives from the Boroughs of St Pancras, Finsbury and Islington and the Primus Master and also a Founder of the Lodge was W.Bro Albert Nicholls Hawtrey.

Originally the lodge met at the Midland Grand Hotel, Euston Road until 1935, after which it met at Freemasons’ Hall, Great Queen Street, where it has met ever since.
